Obituary

CHICOPEE - Xavier L. “Ziggy” Lapolice, 90, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Monday, September 15, 2014. He was born at home in Chicopee Falls on April 26, 1924, a beloved son of the late Leon and Cecilienne (Boisvert) Lapolice. He was educated at Saint George Parochial School in Chicopee Falls, attended Saint Joseph Novitiate in Tyngsboro, MA and Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He began his extensive teaching career at Saint Peter’s Catholic School in Haverstraw, NY. After his religious studies, he decided to combine his love for teaching with his lifelong passion of carpentry. Mr. Lapolice touched many young lives, from 1962 to 1965 while teaching at Holyoke Trade School. After acquiring a Master of Arts in English from Our Lady of the Elms College in 1966, he then taught at Springfield Trade and Putnam Vocational Technical High School in Springfield until he retired in 1985. Xavier was a well-revered educator in the Springfield Public School System from 1965 to 1985. He will be remembered for the great love he had for his family, his religious faith and especially for his sense of humor. His hobbies included; carpentry, music, chess, string-art, cribbage, bowling, camping and excursions on the schooner in Maine. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Carpenters Union Local 108 for over 60 years and a proud member of the Golden Age Harmoni-cats for 10 years. He was a faithful communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville where he served as a choir director for several years. He leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, Therese B. (Deslauriers) Lapolice. He also leaves his four loving children, Norman Lapolice and his partner Valerie, Leonard Lapolice and his wife Marie, Jeannine Millett and her fiancé Gary Lussier, Celeste Vautrain and her husband Daniel; his loving daughter-in-law, Susan Beech; his six cherished grandchildren, Miranda Lapolice and her fiancé, Ben Roney-Yeager, Emily Solomon and her husband Joshua, Katherine Lapolice, Sarah Lapolice, Amy Millett, and Brian Millett; his dear sister-in-law, Cecile Deslauriers; and his many dear nephews, nieces,and cousins. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, September 19, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee Falls, MA 01020. His family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Friday morning, September 19, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to either, Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
