DUDLEY - Edward C. Blair, 64, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. He fought a courageous battle with cancer after being diagnosed in April, 2013.
He leaves his wife of 31 years, Kathleen M. (Jezerski) Blair; his daughter, Julie Ann St. Laurent and her companion Lance Halloran; his granddaughter Jessica St. Laurent and his grandson Stefan Souza, all of Worcester; his mother, Stasia (Jajko) Blair of Webster; his mother-in-law, Evelyn (Anderson) Jezerski of Webster; his 2 brothers-in-law, James E. Jezerski and his wife Leanne of Dudley and Robert F. Jezerski and his wife Tracey and niece Madelyn Jezerski, all of Dracut; his aunts, Rita Blair of Middleboro and Emily Jajko of Webster; several cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his infant son Jeffery Blair in 1973, his father Edward J. Blair in 1992 and his father-in-law Edward Jezerski in 2007.
He was born in Webster on August 31, 1950 and moved to Dudley in 1957. He graduated from St. Louis High School in Webster in 1968 and from Worcester Boys Trade School in 1970.
He was a member of the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.
Ed graduated from Framingham State Police Academy in 1976 and began his 32-year career in law enforcement, first as a police officer for the Dudley Police Department for 15 years and then as a police officer at UMass Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester for 17 years, retiring on September 29, 2012. He was elected as a constable for the town of Dudley in 2013. He was also a dedicated professional attendant at Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home and at Scanlon Funeral Service, both in Webster, for the past 23 years. He also worked at AT&T in Operator Services for 5 years.
He was a member of the Mass. Police Association and the Webster-Dudley Knights of Columbus Council #228.
Ed loved to travel and see the world. He and his wife Kathy enjoyed many memorable cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii and throughout Europe. He also found much happiness working in his yard and nurturing his flowers. He took great pride in tending to his meticulous lawn.
He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren Jessica and Stefan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Yates for her genuine concern and support during Ed’s illness. She was a special angel sent to help him in any way she could and his family will be forever grateful to her.
The funeral will be held Saturday, September 20, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road, Dudley. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Webster. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors at the cemetery.
