Obituary

SPENCER: Joseph S. “Joe” Gebo, Jr. 76, of No.Brookfield Rd., died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 12 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 24 years, Rosemarie (Champeau) Gebo, his two sons Joseph. S. Gebo, III of New Braintree, and Kenneth J. Gebo and his fiancé Stacy Chausse of Willington, Ct., two daughters Susan Lynn Ayers and her husband Robert and Patricia Ann Washburn and her husband John all of Brookfield, two brothers James Gebo and his wife Jeannette and Edson Gebo and his wife Barbara all of Spencer, his sister Theresa Sardi of Spencer, two step daughters Pamela M. Patricks of Spencer and Rachel V. Provencher of Ft. Worth, Tx.,an adopted son Louis Garziano, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 step granddaughters, 1 step great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother in law Joseph Sardi on Feb. 24th, 2014.

Born and raised in Spencer, he was the son of Joseph S. and Vina (Hinerth) Gebo, Sr. and later served his country in the U.S. Army where he met his first wife Hulda Jane. He returned to Spencer to raise his family and was the superintendent of Brookfield Shoe for over 25 years. He then worked with his first wife to create Hillsville Ceramics. He continued to operate it with his second wife until he retired in 2000.

Joe was a H.A.M radio operator, avid motorcyclist and enjoyed fishing.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 147, Spencer, Ma., 01562. J.Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer is directing arrangements.
