Sylvia Blanche Whitford, 94, of Stonington died Friday, September 12, 2014 at Mystic Healthcare Center. She was born on May 8, 1920, in North Stonington, the daughter of Irene (Taylor) and Joseph Dennison Royle.
She was married to Wilmer “Bill” L. Whitford for 57 years. He predeceased her in May of 1999.
Sylvia retired from Mystic Seaport after many years as an interpreter and hostess in the Membership Building.
She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Claudia Adams of Ledyard, as well as many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a sister Gladys McGowan and brother David Royle.
The family would like to thank Mystic Healthcare for their wonderful care and compassion during her 3 and a half year stay there.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Wednesday, October 1, at 2:00pm in Oak Grove Cemetery, 15 Cemetery Lane, Ashaway RI.
