On Wednesday, September 10, Joseph Paul Hoban, loyal husband, fun-loving father, thoroughly hugged grandfather, and adored great-grandfather died quietly surrounded by family. He was 86 years old. Throughout his life, Joe was many things to many people. As a citizen, he was the one who got things done being a popular town Selectman, Chairman of the Board of Health, and Citizen of the Year. As a friend, Joe was the guy who told the jokes, made the drinks, got the girls to laugh, and who everyone wanted at the party. As a husband, Joe was a romancer who gave flowers for no reason, danced every Saturday night with his wife, praised her projects and loved her without stopping, even after her death. As a father, he winced at the boo boos, made up songs about going to the dump, had a car called Salamander that refused to stop for ice cream, and entertained his children for hours with silly games. He was the dad everyone wanted for themselves. Whether as a politician, friend, spouse or father, his smile, blue eyes, easy laugh and honest concern for others made him welcome everywhere. Somewhere now friends and family are welcoming him to the party, and he and his wife, Ernestine, are dancing again. Joe is survived by his eight children: Lisa Fleming of Harvard, MA; Daniel Hoban of Westborough, MA; Katheryn Hoban of North Bergen, New Jersey; Carolyn Pisani of Groton, MA; Stephanie Hoban of Medford, MA; Jennifer Johnson of Westford, MA; Jeremy Hoban of Worcester, MA and Eric Hoban of Geneva, NY and the first of his ten grandchildren, Christopher Hoban of Dedham, MA, who is the father of Joe’s two great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 14th from 4-8 pm at the Ginley/Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street, Medway, MA. His funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 15th at St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village Street, Medway, MA.
