James E. Thompson, 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Minister Michael Lamb and Benny Grice officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Thompson was born January 23, 1933, in Blount County, Alabama, to the late Jonathan and Dovie Barnes Thompson. After high school, Mr. Thompson served his country honorably in the United States Army, during the Korean War. He was a former employee of the Oil Equipment Company in Alabama. He also worked for Fitzgerald Railcar and Goodman’s Welding and Machine, Inc. Mr. Thompson enjoyed fishing and camping. His legacy will be his humble and gentle spirit along with his kind-hearted attitude towards all. He was a member of Church of Christ
He is survived by his wife: Claudine Thompson of Fitzgerald; his children: Belinda & R.C. Jones of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dennis K. Murray of Fitzgerald, Gerald Tilton Murray of Yokosuka, Japan, and Jennifer Garrity of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren: Lakisha Thomas and Landon & Brooke Thomas, both of Charlotte, North Carolina, George & Kaori Murray of Yokosuka, Japan, Lisa & Max Torres of Lake Hurst, New Jersey, Maegan & Baylor Brown of Asheville, North Carolina, and Hunter Garrity of Birmingham, Alabama and six great-grandchildren: Bella Rae Thomas, Corban James Thomas, Eusavio Torres, Enusiano Torres, Ellie Torres, and Aina Murray.
