CHICOPEE – Tadeusz Wcislo, 89, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Country Estates in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born on the family farm in Raczyna, Poland on June 6, 1925, a beloved son of the late Wadzimiesz Wcislo and Karolina (Chudzik) Wcislo and was raised and educated in Poland. During World War II, he and a friend were arrested by the Nazi’s. He later escaped his captors, made his way to France where he served in the French Underground until France was liberated by the US Forces. He was honored to have met President Charles de Gaulle on two different occasions. He served as a guard for US Army bases in France and Germany. Tadeusz was fluent in Polish, and could speak German, French, Russian and English. He traveled extensively in Austria, Germany, Belgium and France following the war. He immigrated to the United States and settled in Holyoke in the mid 1950’s and received his United States Citizenship on March 25, 1964 and was always grateful and proud of his adopted US Country. Seeking employment in the area, he went to work at the Nonotuck Wire Company in South Hadley. On September 5, 1959, he married his beloved wife, Irene Satlawa at Holy Mother of the Rosary Polish National Catholic Church in Chicopee and together they were blessed with 41 years of happiness until Irene was Called Home on October 24, 2000. During their leisure time, Tadeusz and his loving wife, Irene enjoyed the simple things in life. Together they enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, gardening, and mushroom picking. They had many favorite dogs including their beloved Zorro, Susie, and Scooby. He leaves his loving nephew, David J. Satlawa of South Hadley; his loving niece, Kathryn Frostholm and her husband, Rogers, of South Orleans, MA; as well as a nephew and grandniece in Poland. His family would like to especially thank his neighbors who were especially good to Tadeusz and Irene and the caring staff at Country Estates on West 1 in Agawam for their compassionate care during his illness. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, September 12, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the service at Holy Mother of the Rosary Polish National Catholic Cemetery, 1 Bennett Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning, September 12, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. before the service. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
