…retired from Gillette, formerly with Sweetheart; 64
TEWKSBURY - Mr. James J. “Jim” Zani, age 64, a retired industrial machine mechanic, died peacefully Monday morning, September 8, at the Blaire House of Tewksbury, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn M. (Hellijas) Zani, with whom he had celebrated a 44nd wedding anniversary this past June 26th.
Jim was born in Revere, June 26, 1950, a son of the late Elias and Josephine (Kantrowska) Zani, was raised in Revere, and graduated from the New England Military School in Byfield, Mass. He later attended Wentworth Technical Institute in Boston. Jim worked as a machine mechanic at Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington, and retired as a machine mechanic at Gillette in Andover. In his retirement he worked for Insulet Company in Bedford.
He and his family enjoyed their summer camp and boating at Squam Lake in NH, and especially enjoyed vacations in Florida.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher J. and Amy (O’Carroll) Zani of Fitchburg; a brother, Elias “Leo” Zani of Maine; a brother-in-law, Salvatore Toro of FL; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hellijas of Chelmsford and Susan Allen and her husband John of NY; several nieces and nephews including Robert and Joy Toro of Peabody; and was predeceased by his sister, Adele Toro, and his brother, John Zani.
His Funeral Service was held Friday, Sept. 12, in the funeral home, followed by burial at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Merrimack Valley VNA, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
