Frances G. Thornton, 79, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Max Rodgers officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Thornton was born July 31, 1935, in Brooks County, Georgia, to the late James Sterling Gay & Marie Bozeman Gay Lindsey. She was a graduate of Gainesville High School and attended Amarillo Technical College in Texas. She was a former dietitian for Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in Pampa, Texas and a former custodian for the Indian River County Board of Education in Vero Beach, Florida. She also farmed and served as the Queensland dumpsite manager for Ben Hill County. A former resident of Green Cove Springs, Florida, she also lived in San Antonio, Texas and San Marcos, Texas before moving to Fitzgerald in 1995.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Owen Monk, Jr. & Linda of Fitzgerald and James Edward Monk, Sr. & Rebecca of Jamestown, Ohio; six grandchildren: Joseph A. Monk, Jeremie Duane Monk, Christopher Leigh Monk, James Edward Monk, Jr., Jessica Lynn Monk, and Joshua Allen Monk; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruby Albritton, Linda Thornton, and Janice Blake, all of Vero Beach, Florida; and two brothers: Wallace Lindsey of Gainesville, Florida and Elmo Lindsey, Jr. of Vero Beach, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ruffin D. Thornton and two brothers: James E. Gay and Donald Lindsey.
