Obituary

Dorothy R. Davis, 92, died peacefully on September 6, 2014, at Community Hospice on Amelia Island, Florida. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Davis will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Trey Hudson, Ryan Hudson. Chris Troxel, Steve Thompson, Mike Troxel and Ken Dillard will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. There will be a luncheon at the First Baptist Church of Tifton following the graveside service.

The daughter of Datie Ross Rackley and Thomas Rackley, Dorothy was born on November 21, 1921 in Worth County, the first of two children. The family lived in Sumner, then on to Ty Ty, where Dorothy graduated from Ty Ty High School in 1938.

Dorothy married Harry Lee Hudson on July 13, 1940. They had four children together. Harry Lee Hudson died in 1972.

On March 27, 1970, Dorothy married Lamar “Buddy” Davis. They had a wonderful life together until Buddy’s death in 2008.

Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tifton and the Open Door Sunday school class. She loved the Lord and was a faithful servant to Him.

She was absolutely devoted to her family and leaves an amazing legacy for her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a fabulous cook and made many signature dishes for her family including her famous banana pudding. She also loved to read and garden.

She had an abundance of energy and worked as a bookkeeper-office manager until she was in her late 70’s.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Lee Hudson in 1972, Lamar Davis in 2008, her son, David Larry Hudson in 1974; her daughter, Peggy Annette Quintana in 1999; her parents, Datie Ross Rackley in 1974 and Thomas Rackley in 1972; and her sister-in-law, Sue Rackley in 2007.

She is survived by two children, Pat Troxel and husband Dick of Amelia Island, Florida and Harry Lee Hudson, Jr. and wife Holly of Duluth; and one step-son, Mike Davis and wife Brenda of Pensacola, Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Pam Troxel of Amelia Island, Florida, Trey Hudson and wife Tammie of Alpharetta, Kim Thompson and husband Steve of Grayson, Chris Troxel and wife Katie of Dunwoody and Ryan Hudson and wife Jamie of Gainesville; one step-grandson, Michael Troxel and wife Lisa of Augusta; eight great-grandchildren, Brice and Nolan Hudson, Taylor and Morgan Thompson, Hudson and Grayson Troxel and Emily and Rylee Hudson; and three step great-grandchildren, Ashley Ashe, Kristen Troxel and Christopher Troxel. She is also survived by her brother, Clifford Rackley of Houston, Texas; and three nieces, Jenny Sullivan and husband Mike of Fairview, Texas, Clara Eller and husband, W. G. of Katy, Texas and Sherrie Webb and husband Ken of Mathews, North Carolina.
