Betty F. Griffin, 73, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, September 7, 2014, at the Fitzgerald Church of God with the Rev. Dewain Joiner and Minister Teressa McDuffie officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 1037 Jacksonville Hwy, Fitzgerald, Georgia, after 4 PM on Saturday. The body will lie in repose at the residence until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Griffin was born February 2, 1941 in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late David P. and Nancy Alewine Handley. She lived in the community all of her life and was a homemaker. She raised many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Mrs. Griffin was of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years: Don Griffin of Fitzgerald; son: Mike Nesbitt of Fitzgerald; daughter: Kathy Harvey of Fitzgerald; son: Tony & Martha Handley of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Amanda F. Handley of Fitzgerald, Jaime Harvey of Athens, Darion Brazzell of Darien, Michelle & James Drury of Fitzgerald and Elizabeth & Robert Stevens of Fitzgerald; a brother: J.D. Handley of Fitzgerald; a sister: Frances & Chip Shaddix of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews, including Stevie Smith also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son: Charles and two sisters: Shirley Brandenburg and Bobby Vickers.
