Manuel F. Moinheiro, 74, of Dartmouth died Friday November 26, 2004 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Patricia (Silva) Moinheiro.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Abel F. and Maria (Vieira) Moinheiro, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Mr. Moinheiro was formerly employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in New Bedford for 34 years. He was also the former owner of Country Whip Ice Cream in Acushnet for many years.
He was a 1948 gradate of New Bedford High School. He was also a graduate of Kinyon Business School, Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance School, and H & R Block Tax School. He was a member of the Prince Henry Society, Order of Prince Henry Pilot Class. He was the recipient of the Prince Henry Founders Award in 2000 and the Prince Henry Portuguese-American of the Year in 2002. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army in the 24th Infantry Division. He was a member of the Club Madeirense, S.S. Sacramento, Inc. and the Disabled American Veterans, Dr. C.E. Burt Chapter #7. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching sports, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia A. Lunny and her husband Steven, and Pamela Moinheiro, all of New Bedford; a brother, Abel F. Moinheiro, Jr. of Fairhaven; a sister, Laura Vieira of Fairhaven; four grandchildren, Valerie Garnett and her husband Bryce, Sarah Lunny, Jacob Marks, and Zachary Lunny, all of New Bedford; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Garnett; his godchild, Steven Medeiros and his wife Cristal; a niece, Lynn Medeiros-Berard; a great-niece, Megan Berard; and several other nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
He was the grandfather of the late David J. Marks, Jr.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday November 29, 2004 at 10:30 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday November 28, 2004 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
