Severina Mismanos Leyba, age 81, entered into rest on August 11, 2014 in Sunnyside, She was born on February 21, 1933 to Aquilano and Maria (Lascano) Mismanos in Taal, Batangas, Philippines, where she was raised and educated. Severina married on July 31, 1954 to Ernesto Leyba and had five children in the Philippines.
Severina moved to Washington in the early 1970’s. She was a long time Prosser resident. She worked with the elderly as a caregiver and as a preschool teacher. Severina was passionate about helping others. She enjoyed shopping, reading, watching television and traveling to visit friends and family. We will remember Severina for her generosity, kindness and calmness. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of the Prosser Sacred Heart Church.
Severina was preceded in death by her parents, Aquilano and Maria Mismanos; her husband, Ernesto Leyba; brothers, Rolando and Juan Mismanos; nephew, Christopher Whitte; stepson, Alexandro Mendoza; and Margarita Mendoza.
She is survived by her sisters, Tersita Buchead and Jovy Whitte; her children, Beth (Hermie) Almaria, Ruby (Ritchell) Liveta, Lee (Benny) Mendoza, Arnulfo (Dee) Leyba, Ernesto Jr. (Kelly) Leyba, Jose (Karen) Mendoza; his brother, Rogelio Mendoza; and sisters, Erica, Mella, Veronica and Janette Mendoza. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services have been held at Prosser Funeral Home and Sacred Heart Church in Prosser.
