Obituary



Blanche Gillen passed away September 3, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California.
Blanche was born October 12, 1921 in Bucharest Rumania the only child of Sarah Lea Zambilovici Segal
and Pincus Segal and lived there thru World War II – After the War she moved to Israel in 1946 and
then to Montevideo, Uruguay in 1950 to live with her Aunt Lucia. While in Uruguay she met her
beloved Husband Daniel whom she married after a short 10 day Courtship and with whom she spent the
next sixty years. They spent their years together traveling, living abroad and raising their two daughters
Frances and Patricia. Some of her homes were Puerto Rico, Mexico, Columbia, Chile, Brazil, Italy,
Portugal and finally landing in Anaheim Hills, California and retiring to Gautier Mississippi. Her final five
years were spent living with her daughter Patricia in Ventura. In Between these locations were many
years spent exploring the rest of the world with Dan.
She is survived by her Children Frances (Theodore) Avgerinos of Gautier, Ms., and Patricia Gillen of
Ventura CA.; her Grandchildren Adrian (Kristy) Avgerinos of Poway, CA, Cristina (Elliot) Macdonald of
Raleigh, NC and Andrew (Andrea) Avgerinos of Gautier Ms. Her beloved Husband Daniel R. Gillen of
Warsaw, NY preceded her in Death.
Blanches’ spirit and love of life will always be remembered by those who knew her – Her knowledge of
languages (Rumanian, German, French, Spanish and English – (which she learned by reading a
Dictionary) show her love of learning and people. She always spoke from the heart.
