Obituary

Larry Alvin Rowan, 59, of West Berrien died Monday, September 1, 2014, in Key Largo, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Mickey Lindsey and Rev. Jimmy Hagadorn officiating. Larry’s father, Bobby Rowan, will give a eulogy. Mr. Rowan will be laid to rest at Union Grove Church of God Cemetery in Eldorado. Chris Player, Derek Rowan, Heys Rowan, Tyler Collins, Bennett Rowan, Rusty Wilson, Danny Nix, and Robbie Rutland will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Hiers, Elbert Powell, Brad Shealey, Tim Hiers, Timmy Baker, Buddy Suber, Mike Woodward, Danny Gay, Jim Sellars, Dave Richardson, Mike Williams, Don Gaskins and Billy Phelps. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 6, 2014, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Rowan was born on October 21, 1954 in Oliver Springs, Tennessee and was the son of Bobby Rowan and Thelma Purvis Rowan of Tifton. He was preceded in death by one son, Jody Rowan; and several loving aunts and uncles. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of the Engineers Association with the Department of Transportation. He was past president of the Golf Association at the Circlestone Golf Club in Adel and a member of the “Old Friends” Musical Group and the Mount Zion Music Ministries in Valdosta. He was an avid golfer and musician and used his music to minister to residents of various nursing homes and assisted living homes in surrounding areas.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rowan is survived by his wife, Belinda Wilson Rowan of West Berrien; three brothers and sisters-in-law, twin brother Garry and Peggy Rowan of Nashville, Don and Dede Rowan of Newnan and Mike Woodward of Tifton; one sister, Judy Player of Nashville; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Patsy Wilson of Sycamore; three brothers-in-law, Russell Wilson and Ellen Spain, Keith Wilson and Flavia Mazzoni and Rodney and Suzanne Wilson; four nieces, Elisa Rowan Strickland, Sherry Rowan, Jamie Wilson and Tania Morrow; and nine nephews, Derek Rowan, Chris Player, Taylor Strickland, Heys Rowan, Rusty Wilson, Bennett Rowan, Riley Wilson, Tyler Wilson and Tyler Collins.
