Sarah Theresa (Thomas) Zatir, 82, of New Bedford died Monday August 25, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Yazbeck George "Yaz" Zatir and the beloved companion of the late David F. Meehan.
Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Fodul and Ann (Yazbeck) Thomas, she lived in New Bedford for many years. She attended St. Mary's Grammar and High Schools in Taunton and was a graduate of the Cape Cod Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Zatir was formerly employed as a nurse at Union Hospital, Parkwood Hospital, and Frances P. Memorial Hospital. She also worked for a short time at Sacred Heart Home until her retirement.
She loved being with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and going for day trips and dinner theaters with her many friends.
She was a member of the American-Lebanese Veterans Auxiliary of New Bedford.
Survivors include three children, Evamarie Fernandes and her husband Robert of Lakeville, Attorney Peter T. Zatir and his wife Melody, and George M. Zatir and his wife Sandra, all of Dartmouth. She loved and enjoyed her nine precious grandchildren, Michael, Sara, Jessica, Christina, Alicia, Elizabeth, Melissa, and Amanda Zatir and Robert Fernandes. She is also survived by her brother Anthony E. Thomas, her sister Beatrice A. Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Michael J. Thomas and Mary R. Cole.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Friday at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
