Obituary

Tufic J. Assad, 95, passed away Saturday evening at the Nevins Nursing Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born and educated in Lawrence and had been a longtime Methuen resident. As a younger man Tufic was a baker for Abbas Syrian Bread Bakery and then went on to have a career in other industries, having retired from Avco after many years of employment there.
Tufic was an active parishioner of St. Anthony Maronite Church in Lawrence. He was a U. S. Navy veteran , having proudly served during W W II.
He was an avid Red Sox fan and was so happy to have witnessed three world series victories by his team, he loved playing cards and tennis.
Tufic leaves his loving wife of 74 years, Jennie V. (Rashed) Assad of Methuen, his son Gerald P. Assad of Plaistow, his daughter Marsha A. and her husband Robert Tartaglia of Boxford. Grandchildren, Gerald P. Assad II, Grace Kelley, Jennifer Belanger, Glen Tartaglia. Two great grandchildren .His brother Michael Assad of Seabrook and his sister Rita Charmanski of Newburyport. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday August 26, 2014 at 11 Am in St. Anthony Maronite Church 145 Amesbury St. Lawrence. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:30AM to 11Am prior to the mass at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lebanese Awareness Association (ALAA) Scholarship Fund P.O. Box 292 Lawrence, MA 01842.
