KUNIGENAS, Robert P. 81, resident of Ft. Lauderdale, formerly of Dedham, MA, passed away peacefully at his summer home in Hull with his family by his side on August 22, 2014. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 56 years, Stephanie (Olasz) and his children and their spouses, Robert M. and Gayle of Dedham, Elaine and Leo Damren of Westwood, Joseph and Margaret of Wrentham, Jean and Mark Wilkins of Uxbridge and his 9 grandsons and 3 granddaughters. Brother of the late Mildred Smith, Marcella Withey, John, and Michael.
Robert (“Bob”), a 1952 Stoughton High School graduate, was a successful entrepreneur. He started his first business, “Kunigenas and Sons Disposal”, at age 16. His brothers, John and Michael, joined the business when Robert was called to duty for the Korean War. Later the business was renamed “Howard Disposal” located in Boston, MA. The three brothers managed the business until it was sold in 1972. Soon after, Robert and Michael purchased “Metro Waste Disposal” in Puerto Rico, which they managed successfully until his retirement in 1987.
Bob loved the ocean and staying busy. He spent much of his time enjoying the outdoors, maintaining his homes and helping his children. Bob and Stephanie loved to entertain family and friends in Dedham, Florida and Hull and enjoyed watching their grandchildren’s activities. All that knew Bob respected his commitment, compassion and strong work ethic.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, Dedham at 9 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 4-8 p.m. Interment Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
