Lois Phillipps Frye, 90, of Ledyard, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 20, 2014.
She was born on June 8, 1924 in the Bronx, New York, to the late John Samuel and Agnes Carruth Phillipps. The family soon thereafter moved to Yonkers, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended Pace Business School.
Mrs. Frye was employed as a secretary to two world-renowned plant physiologists and later became an administrative assistant at Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research, Inc. from 1942 to 1978. In 1979, she became executive secretary to the president of the New York Botanical Gardens. She was active in the Neighborhood Bible Studies and Christian Business and Professional Women in Westchester County, NY, and served in many capacities including Chairman for three years. She taught high school girls in Sunday School for a number of years at Bethany Chapel in Yonkers.
On May 3, 1981, she married Lester Thomas Frye at the home of dear friends, Melvin and Helen Wistner. After their wedding, they made their home in Ledyard. She was a member of the Auxiliary of The Gideons International and worshipped at Groton Bible Chapel.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two nieces, Gail Bowman of Traverse City, MI, and Doris Pope of Springfield, PA, three nephews, Roger Burgess of Wheaton, IL, David Mewha of Mystic, and Dean Mewha of Landenburg, PA, six grandnephews, Andrew Burgess, Ryan, Jack, Jonathan, Daniel and Caleb Mewha, and seven grandnieces, Sarah Bowman, Elizabeth Burgess, Emily and Sandi Pope, Elizabeth, Susanna and Julia Mewha.
Besides her parents, Lois was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Burgess and Muriel Mewha, a brother-in-law, John Mewha, Jr., and a grandniece, Joy Sarah Pope.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 30, at 1:00pm at the Groton Bible Chapel, 66 Tollgate Road, Groton. Burial will be private.
