Obituary

SALEM – Peter P. Plecinoga, 72, of Salem, husband of Barbara M. (Stankiewicz) Plecinoga, died at his home on Sunday, August 17, 2014.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John C. and Charlotte (Kulak) Plecinoga.

Peter served in the Navy in the Caribbean during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1960 to 1963 and attained the rating of Petty Officer Third Class.

Prior to his retirement in 2006, he was employed by General Electric Co. at the River Works plant in Lynn for 40 years.

Peter, also known as Pogo or Mr. P. was a lifelong and active parishioner of the St. John the Baptist Church, where he was an usher for many years, a bingo worker since it started at the church and the Bingo Director for 15 years. He also assisted with the annual picnics and other church functions and managed the parking lot during Haunted Happenings. He worked at various other bingos in the Salem area and enjoyed playing darts at the VFW, Post #1011 in Peabody.

A lifelong resident of the city, he was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 55.

In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage, Pogo is survived by three sons, Peter P. Plecinoga II and his wife Wendy, James M. Plecinoga, Paul L. Plecinoga, one daughter, Christine M. Plecinoga, three grandchildren, Brittany Soper, Cody Soper, Devin Soper, all of Salem, two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Silva of Reading, Sister Christine Marie, CSSF, (Felician Sisters) of Enfield, CT, an uncle, Boleslaw Kulak, his wife Margaret of Hartford, CT and several cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, J. Michael Plecinoga and an infant son, John Michael Plecinoga.

His funeral service will be held Monday, August 25, 2014 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Sunday, 2 to 6 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
