LAWRENCE: Albertina da Gloria Alvernaz Neves, 89, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in the Lawrence General Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel R. Neves who died in 1998.
Born in Pico, Azores, Portugal on February 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Jose Rodrigues Alvernaz and Maria da Gloria Alvernaz. Albertina came to this country in 1969 and has resided in Methuen and Lawrence for many years.
Albertina was employed at the former AT&T in North Andover for eighteen years before her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the former St. Peter & St. Paul Church in Lawrence.
She is survived by her three sons, Antonio A. Neves and his wife, Lori of Merrimac, Manuel A. Neves of Palm Coast, FL and Joseph A. Neves of Lawrence; five grandchildren, Manny Neves, III, David Neves and his wife, Debbie, Steven Neves, Antonio Neves, Jr. and Stephanie Neves; two great-grandchildren, David Neves, Jr. and Cortney Neves; a sister, Julia of Canada and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters from Canada and Portugal.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main St., Bradford at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
