Obituary

Norman Parent, the last WWII veteran born and raised in Carver, passed away at his home from a long illness on August 12, 2014. He is survived by his wife Ruth Parent whom he was married to for 65 years, son David Parent of Carver, grandsons Andrew Parent of Carver , Eric Parent of Plymouth, Henry Parent of Winslow Maine, William Parent of Winslow Maine, granddaughters Victoria Costigan of Winslow Maine , Brittany Parent, of Winslow, Maine. He was predeceased by his mother Julia , father Joseph, sisters Bernie Grenier , Dot Miller , brothers George Parent, Raymond Parent, Roger Parent son Gerald Parent and grandson Oliver Parent.

A World War II veteran, he served on the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier in the Pacific, where he was wounded in action. He was employed by the town of Carver , where he operated the grader, grading the many dirt roads Carver had. He moved on to the state of Massachusetts DPW where he retired as a supervisor out of the Vine st. garage in Middleboro. He enjoyed working around his house and he loved his family. He fought a valiant fight against his disease.

Memorial visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 21st from 4-7:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St (Rt. 58) Carver. A graveside ceremony will be held at the Central cemetery in Carver on Friday, August 22nd at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers , donations may be sent to the Dana Farber Cancer Center.
