Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Jean S. (Stanwood) George, 85, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Gloucester, on June 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Milton S. and Olive M. (Langley) Stanwood. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1947.
Jean worked at the former LePages, Inc. for several years and then as an electronic assembler for Rule Industries for fourteen years until her retirement in 1999.
She was a member of the Golden Age Club of Manchester-by-the-Sea and an active volunteer at the Hope Chest of the First Baptist Church of Gloucester.
A sports enthusiast, she followed all of her grandchildren’s sporting events and fully loved being their chauffer. She was also extremely proud of their academic achievements and was thrilled to attend their college graduations. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. Norton; son and daughter-in-law, John F., Jr. and Sharon (Collins) George; three grandchildren, Vincent J. Ciarametaro, husband of Marissa Daley, Erin M. George and Patrick C. George; her brother-in-law, Jack Landry, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, David J. Norton and sister, Margaret B. Landry.
Services will be held on Wednesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 (www.cancer.org).
