John William Powers, 88, went to be with his Heavenly Father, The Lord Jesus Christ, Friday, August 15, 2014 at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. Born in East Texas, KY, he retired after 33 years of service with LG&E, is a Navy veteran of WWII and a member of Redeemer Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine. Survived by his three daughters, Debbie Bowling (Tony), Patti Scott and Becky Compton (Buzz); one sister, Martha Jane Leigh; four grandchildren, Ray Compton, Jr., Jeremy Compton, David Yates, Jr. and Emily Hunt; nine great-grandchildren and one great great-grand daughter.
His funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy, with burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday.
