TAUNTON – Manuel E. Jorge, husband of Maria F. (Sousa) Jorge of Taunton, died at Longmeadow of Taunton on Aug. 15, 2014.
He was 74.
Born in Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel P. and Maria (Lacerda) Jorge.
Mr. Jorge was raised and educated in Faial and later served in the Portuguese Army.
A Taunton resident since 1966, he worked in area factories for many years, before retiring several years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church.
A longtime member of the Taunton Sports Club and avid Benfica fan, Mr. Jorge enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of fifty years, he leaves two sons, Edward Jorge and his wife Lynne of Taunton and Michael Jorge and his wife Barbara of Berkley; a brother, Jose Pereira of East Taunton; two sisters, Salome Silveira of Faial, Azores and Aldina Freitas of San Jose, CA; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyle, Amber and Cory Jorge; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Steven Jorge.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Wednesday Aug. 20th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday Aug. 19th from 5 to 8 p.m.
