Darrell L. Fahey, age 67, of Raynham, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury. He was the beloved husband of Diane M. (Haggerty) Fahey to whom he was wed on September 30, 1972.
Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada on February 9, 1947, he was a loving son of Caroline (Curtis) Fahey of Jamaica Plain and the late Bernard “Bernie: Fahey.
Darrell grew up in Canada and as a teenager his family moved to the United States. They first settled in Mission Hill and later moved to Jamaica Plain.
He proudly and bravely served the country he loved as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was discharged from active duty in 1969 with the rank of SP4.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Fahey was employed for 30 years as a Chef for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain.
A resident of Raynham for the past 26 years, Darrell was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 76 in Jamaica Plain.
Mr. Fahey loved being with his adoring family. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed vegetable gardening, and showing kindness and respect to animals.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children; Colleen M. Fahey-Westbrooks and her husband Marc of Taunton and Darrell J. Fahey and his fiancé Jennifer of Taunton. He was the dear brother of Doreen Dykes and her husband Danny of Canton, Linda Evans and her husband Artie of Dedham, Diane McCarthy of Dedham, Ann Shirley McGonagle and her husband Harry of West Roxbury, Lorraine Likas and her husband Eddie of Dedham and Paul Fahey and his wife Linda of Braintree. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday, August 20th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Pleasant Street Cemetery in Raynham.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 19th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Darrell’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
