Mary L. Pitman
Former Longtime Wilmington Resident
TEWKSBURY: Mary L. (Bemis) Pitman, age 84, of Tewksbury, a former 70 year resident of Wilmington, passed away at the Blaire House of Tewksbury on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, with her family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of 58 years to John C. Pitman, Sr. who passed away on December 27, 2009.
Born in Charlestown on November 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Daniel H. Bemis and the late Mary (Doherty) Bemis.
Mary was raised in Charlestown, attended Charlestown schools, and graduated from Wilmington High School.
Following her marriage on March 25, 1951, she dedicated her life to her husband and family.
She enjoyed taking care of her home, socializing with her friends and family, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by two children, Diane L. Patrick of Tewksbury and John C. Pitman, Jr. and his wife Tammie (Brazee) of N. Billerica; four grandchildren, Melissa A. Engelken and her husband Carl, Denise M. Centazzo and her husband David, Brad K. Patrick and his wife Betsy, and Danielle L. Pitman; six great grandchildren, Sarah and Joshua Engelken, Arianna and Gianna Centazzo, Liam and Lily Patrick; two sisters, Elaine Curran and her husband John of Windham, NH, and Nancy Bemis of Wilmington; one brother, Daniel J. Bemis and his wife Beverly of Wilmington; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Mary was the mother-in-law of the late Kenneth F. Patrick and sister of the late Claire M. Peterson and her late husband Herbert W. Peterson.
Calling hours are Sunday, Aug. 17, from 2-6 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Blaire House, 10 Erlin Terrace, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
