R. Frederick “Freddy” Getchell age 70, of Brockton, died Wednesday August 13, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton after a brief illness. Freddy was born in Bangor, Maine a son of the late Roland K. and Mary J. (LaFountain) Getchell and lived in Brockton for most of his life. He attended Brockton schools and was a carpenter by trade. He had worked at Pratt & Sons of Westwood for many years and had also owned his own company F&F Construction in Brockton.
Freddy loved hunting and fishing and was a lifetime member of the Samoset Rod & Gun Club in W. Bridgewater. He also enjoyed reading, studying history, watching the Red Sox and Patriots and cooking for family and friends. A quiet and gentle man, Freddy loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and listening to country music.
Freddy was the brother of Robert K. Getchell and his wife Segu of Nevada, Mary Jane Getchell, Lorraine (Getchell) Bell and her husband Matthew all of Brockton and the late John R. Getchell and his late wife Sandra. He was the uncle of Lisa, Cherie and Ryan Bell, Kerry, John, Maria and Robert Getchell and Monica (Getchell) Dennison and great uncle of Brianna Bell.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday 2-5 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8 am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am.
