Obituary

Lydia Ruth Snowden Dorminy, 94, of Macon, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, August 16, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Keith Goodlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dorminy was born April 21, 1920, in Evergreen, Alabama to the late Charles Eugene & Lydia Spare Snowden. She was a 1938 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and lived most of her adult life in Atlanta. She formerly worked for Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta as well as Sears Roebuck in Buckhead. A woman of great faith, her favorite jobs were those of Mother and homemaker. She loved to read and travel and was a master seamstress. She was a member of Rockdale Baptist Church in Conyers.

She is survived by her children: Jim L. Dorminy, Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Ellijay and Melinda Jones & her husband Jamie of Ocala, Florida; grandchildren: Kevin Dorminy & Ashley of Suwanee, Dr. James Shivers & Stephani of West Hartford, Connecticut, Eric Shivers & Patti of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Michael Shivers & Laurie of Tucker; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Snowden & Bettye of Fayetteville and a sister, Elva Wilkerson of Fayetteville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jim Dorminy; her step-mother, Mary Snowden; siblings: Mary Player, Louis Snowden, Christine Wilson and Carl Snowden as well as infant siblings, Cora, Leroy, and Charles Snowden, Jr.
