Obituary

Myrtis K. Allen, 95, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Michael Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM, in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomas County, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 Tuesday morning at the church.

Mrs. Allen was born June 9, 1919 in Pavo, Georgia, to the late David Van and Rosa Dot White Kennedy. She graduated from Pavo High School and attended beautician school in Nashville, Georgia. She was a homemaker and loved to sew. Mrs. Allen was young-at-heart and very compassionate. She served in the ministry, alongside her husband, for 49 years, where she taught Sunday school, GA’s, Vacation Bible School and was very active in the WMU. Mrs. Allen faithfully served Baptist churches with her husband at Enon Church, Morven Church, Second Church in Lagrange, Zion Church in Conyers, as well as congregations in Orlando, Florida and Brookfield. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.

She is survived by her daughters: Clarice & Jerry Lott of Fitzgerald, Pat & Charles Gann of Chesapeake, Virginia and a son: Tullis V. & Betty G. Allen, Sr. of Douglas; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters: Ann K. Dillinger of Huntsville, Alabama, Deweece Blair of Quitman and Elizabeth V. Anderson of Thomasville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Lawton Tullis Allen and a sister: Jean Griffin.
