Roy Alvin Townsend, Jr., 77, of Tifton died Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Golden Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiating. Bill Johnson and Raymond Hayes will give eulogies. Mr. Townsend will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery. Chris House, Ashley Johnson, Brent Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Marty Johnson and Matt Walker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Burkhead, Raymond Hayes, Rodney Harrell and Alfred Johnson. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 11, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Townsend was born on July 3, 1937 in Jackson, Mississippi and was the son of Roy Alvin Townsend, Sr. and Verna Mae Townsend Shock, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Jeanette Townsend. He was a retired farmer and loved hunting and fishing.
Mr. Townsend is survived by one son, Thomas Dusty Townsend of Omega; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie and Bill Johnson and Patty Rush, all of Omega; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Harvey and Nancy Townsend, Wayne Townsend, William Edward Townsend, all of Union, Mississippi and Terry and Karen Townsend of Bolton, Mississippi; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Pat Coker of Albany, Pauline Reid of Meridian, Mississippi and Wilma Jean and Mike Popwell of Hortense; and eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica and Bart Walker of Omega, Matthew and Keri Fincher of Leesburg, Stephanie Daniel of Omega, Bert Townsend, Jason Townsend, Kayla Townsend, Dustin Townsend and Troy Townsend; 13 great-grandchildren; twelve nephews; ten nieces; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous great-great nieces and great-great nephews; his close friends, Rodney Harrell, Raymond Hayes and Josh Harrell; and his special care-givers, Jessica and Bart Walker and Bonnie and Bill Johnson.
