Obituary

Charles Fletcher Dickens, 85, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, August 4, 2014, at Pruitt Health of Fitzgerald, in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the Ocilla Church of God, with Jack Dickens, Larry Swanson and the Rev. Kenny Croft officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 7 to 9, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Dickens was born May 2, 1929, in Monticello, Florida, to the late Charles T. and Maude Fletcher Dickens. He lived in the community all of his life and attended Irwin County Schools. He was former owner and operator for 44 years of Dickens Septic Tank Service, serving 16 counties. Mr. Dickens was a member of the Ocilla Church of God for over 44 years and he attended Christian Tabernacle for the past 20 years. He served in a Jail ministry for 19 years. Mr. Dickens also served on the pastoral council with the Church of God for 6 years.

He is survived by his children: Charles Elisha & Vivian Dickens of Ocilla, Bailey & Latrelle Dickens of Canton, Jack & Debbie Dickens of Tifton and Lola D. & Steve Atkinson of Broxton; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Rebecca “Becky” Lott Dickens; a sister: Frances D. Cox and a son-in-law: Lamar Young.
