Obituary

Richard H. Hughes, 89, a longtime resident of Whitman, passed away on Tuesday August 5th after a period of failing health. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy (Wright) Hughes of 61 years.
Born and raised in Weymouth, he was the son of the late David and Marjorie (Rea) Hughes and a graduate of Weymouth High School.

Richard served his country in the United States Army for 4 years and 18 years in the United States Air Force. He worked for Shawmut Bank for 22 years.

Richard was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Whitman and was active in many organizations at the church.

He is survived by his 5 children, Richard and his wife Joan of Pembroke, Deborah Hughes of Abington, Brian and his wife Donna of Whitman, Douglas and his wife of Brenda of Halifax and Kevin and his wife Amanda of St. Louis, as well as 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Constance L. Humphrey.

His funeral service will be held on Friday August 8th at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. His visitation will be held on Thursday August 7th from 4:00-8:00 PM.
