Mary F. (O'Donnell) Hurley, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at her home in Charlestown following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 88 years old.
Mary was born in Charlestown on November 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Joseph O'Donnell and Maryan (Doherty) O'Donnell. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1945. Mary worked for several years at Schraffts Candy Company in Charlestown before its closing. She also worked for over 20 years as a Teachers Aide for the City of Boston Public School system at the Barnes School in East Boston and the Clarence R. Edwards School in Charlestown. Mary enjoyed artistry while doing many window displays for several events. She loved to dance and enjoyed listening to her Irish music. She is a member of The old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
Mary is the beloved wife of 52 years to Paul G. Hurley. She is the devoted mother of Paula Hurley-Sankey and her husband Larry Sankey of Derry, New Hampshire. She is the loving Nanny to Quintin Hurley Sankey. She is the sister of the late Joseph O'Donnell, Anna O'Donnell and James O'Donnell. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, Godchildren and her friends at "The Club".
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 5 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
