Obituary

Catherine (Meskell) Guthrie, of Winchester, died peacefully early morning on Friday, August 1, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Best known as “Cappie” & lovingly as “Nana Beach” (Hampton), she was the beloved wife of 61 years of Andrew D. Guthrie, Jr., MD.

Born, raised and educated in Wakefield, Mrs. Guthrie was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Marguerite (Mullen) Meskell. She was a graduate of Emmanuel College with the Class of 1953.

A homemaker, Mrs. Guthrie and her husband lived in Medford for 15 years after her husband completed his medical training. They moved to Winchester in 1972, where they continued to raise and educate their 7 children. In her spare time, she participated in her children’s activities and many community events. An avid skier, she particularly enjoyed skiing in Jackson, NH, membership in a Tuesday Bridge group, and loved Hampton Beach, where she was affectionately known as the “Queen of the Boston Avenue Irregulars”, and where she spent every summer of her entire life, except when she moved in 1972, and took in her parents to care for them as their health deteriorated. She also volunteered her time with the Catholic Charities and the Guild of the Infant Savior.

In addition to her husband, Catherine leaves behind her children: Denise (John) Dawley of Winchester, Andrew D . Guthrie III (Karen) of Andover, Aideen (Thomas) Hunt of Lynn, Ellen Guthrie MD of Winchester, David (Ursula) Guthrie of North Andover, Suzanne (Dennis) Paradis of Strafford, NH and Ted (Debbie) Guthrie of Winchester.
