Obituary

Retired Boston Firefighter, John F. Heanue (Marine Unit), a resident of Mashpee for 15 years and former 10 year resident of Burlington and longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at his home in Mashpee following an extended illness. He was 80 years old.

John was born in Boston on June 23, 1934, a son of the late Michael Heanue and Bridget (Lydon) Heanue. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated and graduated from Charlestown High School. He enlisted into the United States Army and served his country with honor and pride. He was discharged on December 31, 1962 with the rank of Specialist-4. John was sworn in as a Boston Firefighter shortly after his discharge from the military and served the City of Boston as a Boston Firefighter for over 35 years and retiring from the Marine Unit several years ago. He was a retired member of the Boston Firefighters Union local #718.

John is the beloved husband of the late Henriette C. (Herbein) Heanue. He is the devoted father of Christine Cooke and her husband Brian of Mashpee, Michelle Clarke of Colorado, John Heanue and his wife Muriel of Virginia and Danielle Heanue and her partner Paul Trane of Boston. He is the loving Papa to Elise, Caroline, Brian, Alyssa and Michael. He is the beloved brother of Mary Hartin of Braintree, Joseph Heanue of Magnolia, Barbara McCluskey of Quincy and the late Anne Heanue, Eileen Mahoney and Louise Donovan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's visiting hours on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2014 from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11:30 A.M. His burial at Great Neck Woods Cemetery in Mashpee will be private.
