Obituary

Laconia-----Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Corcoran)(Walsh) Whittemore, 79, of Taylor Community, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Thursday, July 31, 2014.
Betty was born August 20, 1934 in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Linehan) Corcoran. She resided in Peabody, Mass. and Gilford, N.H. for several years before moving to Laconia.
Betty was a graduate of North Andover High School in 1952, the Merrimack College, N. Andover, Mass. and Northeastern University, Boston, Mass. and had been employed at General Electric in Lynn, Mass. for thirty-two years before retiring in December, 1986 and moving to the lakes region.
Betty loved her family, photography, playing the piano, reading and travel. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a volunteer at the Lakes Region General Hospital and also the Belknap Mill for several years. She was a member of the Zonta Club of the Lakes Region from 1987-1997, a member of the Taylor Community Board of Directors and was a member of the Lakes Region SCORE Chapter from 1987-1997.
Survivors include a brother, Laurence W. Corcoran and his wife Loretta, of Newton, N.H., a stepson, Bradley W. Whittemore, and his wife, Laura, of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey; a stepdaughter, Gail Volkert, and her husband, Peter, of San Diego, CA; three step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a special cousin Claire Sullivan of Northwood, NH, a special niece, Maureen Giggy of Dunstable, MA and many other nephews, nieces and cousins. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her first husband of 47 years, Joseph Walsh, in 2003 and by her second husband of eight years, Robert M. Whittemore, in 2012.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 2PM to 5PM at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the carriage house entrance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. Andre Bessette Parish - Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia. Burial will follow in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Academy Street, Laconia.
For those who wish, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Lakes Region General Hospital Oncology Department, 80 Highland Street, Laconia, N.H. 03246 or to the charity of one’s choice.
