Obituary

Westborough, MA: Phyllis R. Follansbee, (née Small), 95, entered into rest on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

Phyllis was born January 3, 1919 in Boston, MA. She was a graduate of Bryant Stratton Secretarial College in Boston and worked for the John Hancock Company, also in Boston.

Phyllis and her husband, the late George Follansbee, had the joy of living in diverse geographical locations in the United States: Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois and California. However, Phyllis always felt most at home in her beloved New England where she could enjoy lobster, clam chowder, and the swan boats on the Boston Common. And, of course, she just loved the Boston accent.

Phyllis and George traveled extensively for pleasure and business in the United States, Europe and Canada. Amongst their most memorable voyages was their last trip together to New Zealand.

Phyllis’s other love, besides her family, was the love of the English language. She was an avid reader and remained so till the end of her life. Phyllis was also an accomplished Scrabble participant and a formidable opponent for all, young and old.

Phyllis will be missed by her entire family for her natural wit and solid wisdom. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah McDonald of Worcester, Nancy von der Heyde of Harwich, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and two nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Donald G. Follansbee formerly of Weston.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the John. C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30) Wayland followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 am.
Private burial will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland, MA.
