Obituary

Sidney Vernon (Bud) Rudge, 93, died Thursday, July 10, at Blaire House of Worcester. He was predeceased in 2013 by his beloved wife of 70 years, Anna Eleanor (Selen) Rudge. A lifelong resident of Worcester, he was born to Alfred H. and Annie E. (Greenhalge) Rudge, the 2nd of 5 sons. He grew up in Quinsigamond Village and lived there until he enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 18 to fight in WWII. He was assigned to the Pacific theater and fought at Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and Guam. The experience was to shape his life, and he was always very proud of his opportunity to serve his country as a Marine. After the war, Bud returned to Worcester and was employed by New England Power Co. for his entire working career. After retirement he learned to golf and it became a passion for him. At the age of 86 he got a “hole in one” at the Green Hill Golf Course, where he worked after retirement. He was a loyal, brave and generous man much loved and respected by his family and many friends.

He leaves his daughter, Carole R. Lodding and her husband, David, of Natick; two sons, Donald V. Rudge and his wife, Pamela of Worcester and Paul S. Rudge and his wife Ann, of Sandy, Utah; six grandchildren Jeffrey W. Lodding, Dr. Cynthia C. Lodding, Matthew V. Rudge, Lisa A. Rudge, Jennifer D. Germer and Michael J. Rudge; three step-grandchildren Jodi, Benjamin and Emily Tucker and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Robert and Ronald Rudge both of Millbury. He was predeceased by grandson, Erik W. Lodding and his brothers Alfred Howard Rudge and Richard Rudge.

A memorial service will be held for Bud and Eleanor at St. Michael’s on-the-Heights Episcopal Church, 340 Burncoat St. on Saturday, September 20 at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Michael’s on-the-Heights Episcopal Church, 340 Burncoat St., Worcester MA 01606.
