SOUTHWICK – Hector L. Tourigny, 82, of Southwick and a former longtime resident of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 21, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on October 4, 1931, a beloved son of the late George A. and Ida (Duchesne) Tourigny. He was raised in Springfield, graduated in 1950 from Cathedral High School and lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Southwick in 1996. He was employed as a gun fitter at Smith & Wesson in Springfield and had last worked as a salesman for the Sears & Roebuck Company at the Eastfield Mall in Springfield before retiring in 1992. Hector was a member and Chancellor of the Knights of Columbus Council 11178 in Southwick, a member of the Archbishop Williams Assembly Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Springfield Lodge of Elks. Active in his faith, he was a longtime communicant and active parishioner at the former Saint Joseph Church in Springfield. During his life, Hector was centered on his Catholic Faith and his loving family and many friends. He was currently a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Southwick. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Norma T. (Goodrow) Tourigny. They were married on September 23, 1950 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving children, Lawrence H. Tourigny and his wife, Shirley, of Hernando, FL, Kathleen A. Hoggan and her husband, John, of Venice, FL, Reverend William A. Tourigny, Pastor of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee, Thomas M. Tourigny and his wife, Suzanne, of Springfield, Ann Marie J. Giguere and her husband, Paul, of East Longmeadow, and Denise P. Jarry and her husband, Brian, of West Springfield; his 12 cherished grandchildren, Heather Tourigny, Benjamin Tourigny and his wife, Bridget, Jacqueline Sullivan and her husband, Patrick, Christina Fusick and her husband, David, Amanda Tourigny, Phillip Giguere and his wife, Jenna, Matthew Giguere and his wife, Allison, Timothy Giguere and his wife, Elizabeth, Kimberly Rizzo and her husband, Vinnie, Jennifer D’Ambrosio and her companion, Ken Metz, Joseph D’Ambrosio and his companion, Lauren McCormick, and John Hoggan, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly; his 12 cherished great-grandchildren, Domenic and Mason Tourigny and Arianna Donovan-Isaac, Kayleen, Connor and Kevin Sullivan, Zachary Fusick, Dillon Giguere, Vinnie and Mia Rizzo, and Jacob, Julia and Jenna Hoggan; his dear sister, Barbara Nicholson of Longmeadow; his dear brothers-in-law, Arthur Goodrow and Edward Goodrow and his wife, Ellen, all of Agawam, Robert Goodrow of Springfield and Eugene Goodrow and his wife, Joane, of Inverness, FL; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Tourigny and Goodrow families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brothers, Armand, Raymond, Roger and George Tourigny, Jr.; and his dear sister, Irene Daniels. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, July 26, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:15 a.m.), followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue, Indian Orchard, MA 01151.
