Obituary

Laurence J. Gavin 92, of Natick died Wednesday July 16, 2014 at the Metro West Medical Center in Natick.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy S. (Sherwood) Gavin sharing 68 years of marriage.

A Natick resident for 60 years he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Henderson) Gavin.

Mr. Gavin was a Men’s suit and clothing salesman for Filenes Department Stores at the Chestnut Hill and Natick Mall for 33 years retiring in 1982.He was one of the top producing salesmen in company history and was well known for providing high level of personalized service to his hundreds of loyal and appreciative customers.

He was an accomplished golfer and student of the game, and was especially happy playing golf with his son Keith.

Larry maintained his home with great pride and care, cutting the grass like it was “Augusta National”.

Mr. Gavin was committed to his faith in God and was supportive of several Churches over the years. He was the Superintendent of Sunday School for the Hartford Street Presbyterian in Natick, was an usher for the Park Street Church in Boston and was a longtime member and usher at the Natick Baptist Church.

Mr. Gavin was a Veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Military Police.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters Cheryl G. Araujo of Framingham, Jean S. Theroux of Stratford CT, six grandchildren Matthew Gavin, Brett Gavin, Douglas Araujo, Jill Davis and her husband Jeff, Christopher Theroux ,Ashley Hui and her husband Thomas, three great-grandchildren Gabriel Hui, Gavin and Robert Davis, nephews Jim ,Bill, Mark and Hugh Gavin.

He was also the father of the late Keith S Gavin who died in 2002 and brother of the late Ronald Gavin, William Gavin and his wife Peggy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral services on Wednesday July 23, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common.

Burial will follow in Dell Park Cemetery.
