Paul D. Konkol, 62 of Derry, passed away peacefully at his home on July 16th, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Worcester, MA to the late Edward and Ann Konkol and has been a resident of Derry for the past 30 years. He was a devoted husband and loving father and survived by his wife Donna Konkol of 29 years, his daughter, Lindsey Konkol of Manchester NH, step-son Kenneth Gurley, daughter-in-law Mariel Souza, and granddaughter Willamina Gurley of Hamilton MA.
Paul was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and member of their hockey team. He played sports throughout his life, most notably golf where he will be missed on the course by many friends. He also enjoyed going to concerts, listening to and playing music, but his true love was simply being with his family.
Paul was employed at Shaw's Supermarkets for 27 years. He was known for his vibrant sense of humor and for being a notorious prankster. He will also be remembered for his generosity, with always having "one more" gift at Christmas that only he knew about.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Lahey Clinic in Derry and the Home Health and Hospice Agency in Merrimack for their kindness and support throughout his care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to those two organizations on their websites.
Calling hours were held on Monday July 21, 2014 from 3 – 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A memorial service followed at 6:00pm in the funeral home. Private burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
