Laconia-----Robert E. Jackes, 89, of 2870 Parade Road, died at his home on Thursday, July 17, 2014.
Mr. Jackes was born December 19, 1924 in Holstein, Iowa, the son of the late Gertrude (Foster) and William Jackes, Sr.
Mr. Jackes served in the U. S. Coast Guard for four years and resided in Tilton, N.H. for ten years before moving to Laconia forty-three years ago. He worked as a herdsman, as a Farm Manager for the Laconia State School and Training Center and also worked as a contractor and carpenter, totaling a working career of fifty-eight years.
Mr. Jackes enjoyed fishing, hunting, cross stitching and rug hooking. He was a member of the Married Farmers of Belknap County and the American Legion – Wilkins-Smith Post #1 in Laconia and the Groveton Snowmobile Club.
Mr. Jackes was a devoted husband, father, friend and child of God. He is survived by four daughters, Janice (Jackes) Blackey , Roberta (Jackes) Brooks, Paula Lee Jackes and Judith (Jackes) Wetherbee; seven grandchildren, Brian Jackes, Dennis Jackes, Katie Jackes, Tina Ryan, Renee Hegele, Randy Brooks and Dawn Brooks; seven great grandchildren and four nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jackes was predeceased by his wife, Kitty (Stefanopoulos) Jackes, a daughter, Sue Ellen Jackes, a son, Stephen Allen Jackes; a brother, William Jackes, Jr. two sisters, Annie (Jackes) Lorenzen and Mildred Jackes.
There will be no calling hours.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 1:00PM at the family lot in Park Cemetery, Tilton, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the NH Veterans Cemetery Assoc., Inc., PO Box 626,Concord, NH 03302-0626.
