Obituary

John W. "Zeke" Ezekiel, an 18 year resident of Reading and former longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his home in Reading following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.

John was born in Somerville on June 19, 1946, a son of the late William Ezekiel and Anne (Burns) Ezekiel. John grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Boston English High School in 1964. He furthered his education and received his Associates Degree from Wentworth Institute in Boston. John worked as a truck driver for McClean Trucking for over 14 years and was a member of Teamsters Union Local # 25. He also worked as a Manager for 25 years under the Department of Conservation & Recreation for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Matthew O'Neil Memorial Skating Rink in Charlestown and Foss Park in Somerville. Recently, John had been working as a Maintenance Supervisor for Cornerstone Corporation at building # 104 in the Charlestown Navy Yard. John enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Boston sports fan for the Boston Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots. He is a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and the 520 Club.

John is the adored and loving husband of 22 years to Ann F. (Devlin) Ezekiel and the late Denise L. (Dumas) Ezekiel. He is the devoted father of Boston Police Officer John W. Ezekiel Jr. and his wife Karen McColl of Lynnfield and Karen Donnaruma and her husband Carmen of Reading. He is the loving Papa to Reagan and Finley Ezekiel. He is the beloved twin brother of Mike Ezekiel and brother of Gael Keefe, Billy Ezekiel and Freddy Ezekiel. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and his golf buddies.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 8:30 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield. Visiting hours will be on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
