Sarah Snead Weston, 92, of Richmond, VA, formerly of Chase City, VA, passed away on July 13, 2014. Born July 29, 1921 in Clover, VA, she was the daughter of the late Carl Raymond Snead and Sallie Throckmorton Snead. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ernest Wilson “Dick” Weston, Sr. and two brothers, Rawleigh Snead and George Snead.
She is survived by her son, Ernest Wilson “Ernie” Weston, Jr. and his wife, Lynda; twin grandchildren, Sarah Delaney Weston and Thomas Reid Weston, all of Richmond; sister, Mary Parks of Scottsburg,VA; sister-in-law, Janet Snead of Richmond; devoted nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Sarah graduated from Clover High School and worked for American Tobacco Company in Richmond. In 1952, Sarah and Dick moved to Chase City where they opened Dick's Steakhouse, an area landmark which they owned and operated for 48 years before retiring in 1999. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling and time with friends and family, especially their precious grandchildren. Sarah was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Chase City and the Elizabeth Hale Circle. In 2006, she moved to Richmond where she was able to spend more time with her children and grandchildren. Sarah enjoyed sports and games and attended many of her grandchildren’s numerous sporting events, school and church activities. Sarah was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to everyone she knew, and she will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Chase City,VA. with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be at Woodland Mausoleum. Following the services there will be a reception for family and friends. A memorial service will be held in Richmond at Gayton Terrace Retirement Community, 12401 Gayton Road on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 3 p.m.
