Vivianne Annette (Guimond) Cummings, formerly Mulrooney, 91, of Westport, passed away at Somerset Ridge Center on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death just six months ago by her husband of 32 years, William F. “Bill” Cummings. She was also formerly married for 28 years to the late Francis P. Mulrooney.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Napoleon O. and Ernestine (Berube) Guimond, she had resided in Westport since 1981. She was a 1942 graduate of Jesus-Mary Academy and a 1944 graduate of Thibodeau’s Business College, both of which were in Fall River. She worked as a secretary her whole life and retired from her last position at Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton in 1990. Following her retirement, Vivianne volunteered at the St. Anne’s Hospital gift shop, at the Westport Senior Center, and at the former Health Havens Nursing Center in East Providence, RI. She loved to travel and was proud of her French Canadian heritage, having raised all her children bilingually.
“Vivacious Viv” was very much a people-person who made friends wherever she went, even during her last six months as a resident at Somerset Ridge where she loved and was loved by many staff members and fellow residents. Formerly of Notre Dame de Lourdes parish in Fall River and St. Patrick’s parish in Somerset, Vivianne was a communicant and member of the choir at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport, for many years following her relocation there. A beautiful soprano, she sang in many weddings and other special events, and in many church celebrations over the course of her life. She maintained a strong faith in Christ and commitment to the church throughout many difficult seasons. As a single mother for several years, she worked very hard to provide for her family and to pass on her faith to her children.
Vivianne was the loving mother of Francine P. (Mulrooney) Ferreira of Dighton; Michael P. Mulrooney of Somerset, and Christopher P. Mulrooney and his wife Laure (Turn) Mulrooney of Tallahassee, FL; and the loving grandmother of Charles Ferreira, III, of Watertown; Charline (Ferreira) King of Thornton, CO; and Erin and Katie Mulrooney of Tallahassee, FL. In addition, she had three step-children and three step-grandchildren whom she loved from her marriage to Bill: Thomas W. Cummings and his wife Karen (Sullivan) Cummings of Simsbury, CT and their three sons; Kathleen Cummings and her late husband Robert Kowalczyk of Westport and Carolyn Cummings and her husband Bryan Sines of Weymouth.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 12:00 P.M.
Memorial visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport prior to the Mass.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
