JOHN M. MAHANEY: Korean Conflict Veteran; Court Reporter.
John passed away July 7, 2014. He was the third of eight children born to Marion L. (Fay) and Charles E. Mahaney of Natick.
John served in the U.S. Army, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge. He then enrolled in the Stenotype Institute of Boston where he met the love of his life, Judith (Cutter) Mahaney.
From 1959 until 2013, John worked as a court reporter, eventually opening his own business, Mahaney Reporting, in 1978, now run by his oldest son Dave. John was Past President of the Massachusetts Court Reporters Association.
John sang in the church choir for years. He was an avid runner and ran with the Marshfield Runners Club from age 42 to age 77. John’s “heaven on earth” was his cottage in Green Harbor.
John leaves behind his wife of 54 years Judith, of Duxbury, and their three children: Kerry Zahn (Richard) of Virginia Beach; David Mahaney (Anne) of Marshfield; and Craig Mahaney of Duxbury, as well as three grandchildren, Ryan Zahn, Allison Zahn, and Daniel Mahaney. He is also survived by brother Bob of Natick; brother Dick of Falmouth; sister Pat of South Carolina; sister Mandy (Raymond Fisher) of Pennsylvania, brother Dennis of New Mexico, sister Dorothy of Hudson, sister Ann of Holliston; brother-and-sister-in law Richard and Helen Cutter of East Kingston, New Hampshire; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2014; no visiting hours.
