Obituary

Peggy Bass Rowe, 91, of Ocilla, Georgia, formerly of Lithonia, Georgia, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Jonathan D. Greene and the Rev. Wayne McCrimmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton. The family will receive friends 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Ms. Rowe was born May 22, 1923 in Tifton, Georgia, to the late William Everett and Ruby Smith Bass. She was a former secretary for Boy Scouts of America, Georgia State School Building Authority and Cohn Music Company. A former resident of Tifton, she lived in the Lithonia area since 1961. For the past five years, she was a resident of Shiloh Personal Care Home in Ocilla. While residing in Lithonia, Ms. Rowe served as President of the Lithonia Women’s Club and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She had several hobbies and interests including square dancing and ballroom dancing. She took flying lessons and flew solo. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Brenda Greene Hamby & Malcolm of Lithonia, Kip G. & Jack Eldridge of Mystic, and Ronald F. Greene, Jr. & Kay of Cartersville; grandchildren and their spouses: James F. Gibbs, III & Tina and Peggy G. & Roger Tanner, all of Jacksonville, Florida, Sonja G. Rogers of Fitzgerald, Susan H. Palmer of McDonough, Rachel G. O’Dell & Brandon of Lawrenceville, and Jonathan D. Greene & Rachel of Lynchburg, Virginia; eleven great-grandchildren: Spenser & Amanda Bridge, Sterling Bridge, Lonnie Giddens, Loren Giddens, Zachary Ross, Katie Palmer, Devin Palmer, Lydia Jane O’Dell, Nehemiah Jackson O’Dell, Daisy Lenore O’Dell, and Henry Lewis “Hank” Greene; two great-great-grandchildren: Landon Bridge and Logan Harper; and one sister: Shirley B. Griffin of Tifton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Hazel B. Mitchell, Marian B. McElroy, Odella B. Nason, and William E. Bass, Jr.
