Hilda G. (Gonsalves) Ransom, 78, of New Bedford passed away Sunday June 29, 2014 peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late Herman L. "Duke" Ransom.
Born in Freetown, the daughter of the late Manuel and Virginia (Santos) Gonsalves, she lived in New Jersey for many years before returning to New Bedford 18 years ago.
She was an active member of Calvary Pentecostal Church in East Freetown.
Survivors include six children, Gail Ransom and Lynn A. Ferreira Clermont, both of New Bedford, Herman L. Ransom, Jr. of Arizona, Cleaver Ransom of Texas, Michael Ransom of New York City, and George Holiday of Savannah, GA; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 12 Noon in the Calvary Pentecostal Church, 33 Braley Road, East Freetown. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday at Church from 10:30 AM - 12 Noon, prior to the Service. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
