Laura Townsend, formerly of Mystic and New Canaan
CT, died Monday in Canaan, CT. She was born in Staten Island N.Y.
The daughter of Archer R. and Adelaide (Gostenhofer) Trench. She
attended St. Catherine’s School in Baltimore Md and was graduated
from Wheaton College.
She was employed as a teacher and for many years
worked as a volunteer with retarded children. Well
know for her watercolors, she was elected as an artist
member of the Mystic Art Association where she was a
key to the success of the Docent Program. She was
actively involved in the Mystic Congregational Church
where she served as a Deacon and assisted in teaching
the Confirmation Program.
She is survived by Thomas, her husband of 64
years, by son Hunter of Meriden New Hampshire, and
daughters Joanne Taber of salisbury CT and Elizabeth
Macdonald of Atlanta Ga and by her
10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of her life at the Mystic
Congregational Church at 2:00 PM on Saturday November
20th.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the
Mystic Art Association or the Mystic Congregational
Church (notation: youth fund.)
